A powerful and historically significant Wedgwood majolica charger, specially commissioned in 1919 by Sloane and Smith Ltd. to commemorate the end of the First World War and the signing of the Peace of 1919. The design features a striking bust of Britannia facing left, alongside the Union Jack, all finely hand-painted in rich, multi-colour majolica glazes.
This large and heavy piece is part of a limited edition of only 250, this one being number 46 (or 44)—a seldom-seen survivor from a commemorative series with strong patriotic symbolism and national pride.
Condition:
Very good for its age. Uniform crazing throughout, typical of majolica, and clearly visible in the photos. No cracks or major damage observed.
