Extremely Rare 19th-Century Wedgwood Double Inkwell Stand – Zodiac Motif
Circa 1800s – Museum-Quality Display Piece
A remarkable and seldom-seen Wedgwood double inkwell stand, beautifully designed with the 12 Zodiac signs encircling the top surface. Crafted in the 19th century, this is an outstanding example of neoclassical functional design fused with astrological symbolism.
The stand features two circular inkwell recesses, originally fitted with lidded inkwells—sadly, the lids are no longer present. Despite this, the piece retains strong aesthetic and historical appeal.
Markings:
Impressed “WEDGWOOD”, letter “V”, and additional potter’s marks.
Condition:
Some minor nibbles and small chips on the edges surrounding the inkwell recesses.
Ink stains present in both wells, consistent with genuine 19th-century use.
No restoration or repainting. Aged but structurally solid.
Dimensions (approx):
Stand: 11 3/4″ long × 7″ wide
Each inkwell recess: 2″ high × 2 3/8″ top diameter
- A stunning collector’s item and an evocative piece of historical deskware, perfect for lovers of Wedgwood, antique writing instruments, or celestial-themed artifacts.
